There was a certain nation called Israel that got to the point where they “sinned without blushing.” They were exiled for it.

But where does the pencil go?

People who say that we should get rid of the IRS have no idea what impact that will have on the majority of the American people. It will RAISE their taxes. The reason a number of Republicans are after the IRS is because we have a teared tax system. Those who earn the most money pay the most taxes. When someone’s yearly income is far more than they need to survive they are the ones who pay more taxes.
With a flat tax system, everyone pays the same percentage of tax, so the single Hispanic waitress with 4 children that earns less than 10K a year would pay the same percentage of tax as the single, white billionaire with a large stock portfolio. This is not only ridiculous but cruel. It is just another way for the ungodly rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.
February 4th, 2008 at 8:14 am
so should we be sorry that we bust ass to get to where we’re at? since when did capitalism started punishing success?
February 4th, 2008 at 8:50 am
Oh, thats why 10% of Americans should pay 60% of the gross taxes in the country?! The Hispanic mother of 4 could of stayed in her own country, I’m sure the taxes are better there.

A sence of humor of a wonderful thing.

We don’t have a “teared” tax system, but we do have have a lot of TEARFUL taxpayers after April 15th. Maybe ‘amadeupname’s syntax got mixed up with the SIN TAX which refers to such things as cigarettes and alcohol which are regarded as neither necessities nor luxuries. Oh, yes ! Let us not forget that in the late 18th Century the only official Party here was known as the “Democratic Republican Party” and that later, President Hamilton managed to break off with the Democratic Party, so we then had two Parties which became the Democratic Party (which is not genuinely democratic) and the Republican Party of President Abraham Lincoln who freed the slaves.
February 4th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
@amadeupname
True. With a “flat tax” system everyone pays the same percentage of income taxes. That’s not what ae’re talking about here.
We’re talking about a “fair tax” system. In this system, INCOME tax is elimated completely and higher SALES taxes are introduced. With this system, the amount of taxes you pay are directly related to the amount of “stuff” you buy. Therefore, those who make more and spend more, pay more. Those who make less and spend less, also pay less.
And if you want to complain about whatever billion has a huge stock portfolio consider this:
ANYONE can invest in stocks and ANYONE can make money in stocks.
You should only have to pay taxes when you actually spend the money.

Sheeple, it is Infernal Rectum Suckers. WTF sheeple, why are you still trying to defend the tax system? I think you have consumed too much sodium flouride and you have lost the ability of critical thinking. (just like the Feds like it). This country needs NO tax just like the top 10% of the richest people in the US pay. You are pathetic if you believe that the founders of the US designed this country to have and income tax. Income tax is beginning of tyranny. Tyranny is what the founders of the US were trying to destroy. Get your heads out of your asses. If the Federal Reserve System is such is a good deal, then look at it’s success. It has reduced the buying power of the US dollar to $.04 of what it was at it’s inception in 1915. Please restrain yourselfs from assuming the cranial rectum inversion position until you investigate what I am talking about. The Federal Income Tax was instituted to pay the interest on the money borrowed from the Federal Reserve System. WAKE THE FUCK UP SHEEPLE. The biggest criminals are not locked up in prison, they are re-elected term after term to office in Congress. Politicians like diapers need to be changed regularly and for the same reason.
February 4th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
LOL. Well, I for one don’t know HOW that made it through moderation but I like it.
However, I do see one tiny problem in that whole rant. We need some taxes. No country can function properly or effectively without them. I agree that the US has WAY too high of taxes for the ordinary person (middle income). But if you eliminate all taxes who’s going to pay for workman’s compensation? Your company’s insurance? Haha. Yeah right. Your boss would rather you try to sue them over the money and draw it out for 15 years rather than pay for that much insurance coverage.
What’s going to keep the highway system from falling apart? I certainly ain’t gonna pay to have the road in front of my house fixed all by myself for the benefit of my neighbors to enjoy. But on the other hand, noone is going to willingly hand money over to someone else to take care of the roads when they can simply keep that money in their pockets. Hence, taxes.
Not one family could afford to have any children go to college if they had to pay for the entire cost out of pocket. I understand student loans are available, but you do realize why those are possible, right? Believe me, no company in their right mind is going to give $40,000/year to an 18-year-old on a whim to hopefully see that money again someday in the form of a better working class. It’s called government subsidies, which come from….taxes!
Again, I agree there are alot of useless taxes out there that go to pay for the goldfish in some pond in London, or the monument of the world’s largest ear of corn, or whatever-else-have-you. But taxes are essential.

Hi, as Pat Buchanan writes here
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/archives.asp?AUTHOR_ID=185
in “Tapped out Nation” 90 % of taxes pay for
[1] the three social programs: Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid
[2] the spending for defense (or wars, agression, or whatever)
[3] the interest on the debt.

This kind of pencil sharpener would be more funny, if it would be some sort of a shark biting a pencil.
February 5th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
You need to educate yourself LeeNotSa. Highway taxes come from federal fuel taxes. Taxes for schools come from real estate taxes. Workers compensation is state run in most cases. Social Security is taken from wages. You are just a sheeple like the rest of the brain damaged (from sodium flouride) humans. Grab hold of your knees and try to prevent from head from entering your rectum. You like surrendering your liberty. The media has conditioned you to do this. Freedom from tyranny is freedom from taxes, but you do not wish to be free. You owe to yourself to do your homework. Investigate before it is too late Sheeple. The market going into the toilet is just the beginning.
February 6th, 2008 at 7:13 am
The market needs to go into the toilet. A good ol’ recession is exactly what this country…and the world needs.
February 6th, 2008 at 7:29 am
And besides the market…
My point was NOT in what form the taxes were in, my point was that we still need taxes. You sir, are suggesting we elimate all taxes. That would be ludicrous. The fair tax is esentially a use tax. You USE the highways in the form of driving you PAY federal fuel taxes. Please READ what us “sheeple” are saying before TRYING to throw it back in our face.
Again…cuz I realize now that you’re a little slow. My POINT was NOT in which form the taxes that pay for whatever social or functional program come from, but rather that they still come from taxes. Therefore, elimating taxes (as you suggest) would eliminate the programs (highways, education, worker’s comp for example) they support. Again…my initial point was that I’m not going to pay out of pocket to fix the road in front of my house, thus I will gladly pay a tax (in whatever form) to have some other body (government) take care of it for me. If that’s being a sheeple, so be it. I think that’s utilizing my resources!
February 8th, 2008 at 10:10 am
LeeNotSa - I agree there have to be some taxes. But we must define the role of government and then confine it.
My opinion: it is not the role of government to subsidize college education. If a person can’t afford college without government aid, perhaps that suggests college tuition has become overpriced. If the government got out of the college education business, perhaps tuition would become more reasonable.
It’s like saying, we can’t get rid of the Fed because interest rates would go up and nobody would be able to afford houses. Not true. Houses became overpriced because of cheap money provided by the Fed. If we actually had free market currency (we don’t), then perhaps housing prices would become reasonable again.
Anytime the government sticks its nose where it doesn’t belong, everything gets out of whack.
February 12th, 2008 at 8:40 am
Let’s face it we are all taxed to death.
Makes no matter if one is in the US or Canada.
ALong with the GST (gouge and screw tax) business’s (retail) also have to PST (provincial sales tax.)
If they figure you haven’t paid enough along they come with an audit.
Results are usually drastic
I know they put my out of business. Being honest doesn’t cut it anymore
Believe me. Still paying the SOB’s back and going bankrupt to boot.
February 13th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
And everyone here overlooked the fact that it’s totally sexist? It’s ok to degrade people, as long as you’re pissed about the tax system, right?
Ugh.
February 14th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Remember folks, once you sign your tax return you are excepting part responsibility for all that your dearly beloved government does. That includes killing.
